爾今收藏界有“明看成化，清看雍正”的說法。其實早在古代瓷器收藏家之中就已經流傳這樣一句話：“寧存成窯，不茍富貴。”明代沈德符《萬歷野獲編》中則有：“窯器初貴成化，次則宣德。杯盞之屬，初不過數金，頃來京師，成窯酒杯，每對至博銀百金，為吐舌不能下。”明朝人程哲在《蓉槎蠡說》一書中品評明代瓷器時推成窯瓷器為明代之冠。另在清初朱彝尊《曝書亭集》中也記載：“萬歷器索金數兩，宣德、成化者倍蓰之……”成化官窯瓷器受人追捧程度可見一斑。
明初隨著政局的穩定，社會經濟得到不斷發展，大大推動了制瓷工藝的進步。青花瓷器的燒造，在元代的基礎上更加完善，制作技術更加純熟，并且不斷創新，無論從數量或質量上看，都有很大提高，成為當時瓷器生產的主流。成化官窯瓷器，是明成化年間(公元1465-1487年)景德鎮生產供皇家使用的瓷器。以青花與斗彩最負盛名。成化時期器物因以小件為多，其器造型，多以規整周正、小巧精致、渾圓豐滿著稱。故有“成化無大器”之說，現所能見到的傳世品多在27公分以內，類如永樂、宣德時期的大器比較少見。器物品種主要有瓶類、罐類、杯類、爐類、碗碟類、盤類、壺類和一些文房用具。
