咸豐重寶當(dāng)五十，為方孔圓形錢(qián)幣。錢(qián)幣正面直讀“咸豐重寶”四字，背面上下寫(xiě)有漢文“當(dāng)五十”字樣，左右有滿(mǎn)文的錢(qián)幣鑄造局名稱(chēng)。錢(qián)文書(shū)寫(xiě)規(guī)矩，布局協(xié)調(diào)，端莊大方，筆劃清晰，筆力遒勁，間隔有距。觀其鑄體，鑄制規(guī)整，邊圓廓正，坦平地章，穿緣廓干凈，優(yōu)良鑄工，更顯字廓深竣挺拔，精整有加。品賞其錢(qián)文，可見(jiàn)字體端美亮眼，十分耐賞。整體銅色熟舊感鮮明，錢(qián)體完好，包漿渾厚，品相甚佳，實(shí)為古錢(qián)珍品，值得收藏。

咸豐重寶是清朝政府為籌款打壓太平軍，減輕財(cái)政危機(jī)，于咸豐三年開(kāi)鑄的大錢(qián)。當(dāng)五十及以下計(jì)值稱(chēng)為咸豐重寶，高于當(dāng)五十計(jì)值稱(chēng)為咸豐元寶，以區(qū)別于小平錢(qián)咸豐通寶。咸豐重寶有“當(dāng)五”、“當(dāng)十”、“二十”、“五十”和“一百”等版別。據(jù)悉，咸豐四年到五年間，根據(jù)戶(hù)部要求，寶蘇局在鑄造當(dāng)十大錢(qián)之后不久開(kāi)始試鑄當(dāng)五十錢(qián)，由于當(dāng)時(shí)通貨膨脹趨于嚴(yán)重，當(dāng)五十錢(qián)旋即停鑄，所以存世量十分稀少，在市場(chǎng)上相對(duì)來(lái)說(shuō)比較少見(jiàn)的錢(qián)幣的價(jià)值則更高正。
