咸豐重寶是清朝政府為籌款打壓太平軍，減輕財政危機，于咸豐三年開鑄的大錢。當五十及以下計值稱為咸豐重寶，高于當五十計值稱為咸豐元寶，以區別于小平錢咸豐通寶。咸豐重寶有“當五”、“一十”、“二十”、“五十”和“一百”等版別。據悉，咸豐四年到五年間，根據戶部要求，寶蘇局在鑄造當十大錢之后不久開始試鑄當五錢，由于當時通貨膨脹趨于嚴重，當五錢旋即停鑄，所以存世量十分稀少，在市場上相對來說比較少見的錢幣的價值則更高正。
