  南北朝時期的石刻藝術在中國藝術歷史上一直是獨樹一幟的地位,其地位的保持肯定是靠此時期石刻藝術的獨特魅力和非凡成就,其中最大的一個魅力莫過于外來文化的影響了。隨著東漢以來的佛教東傳,我國古代的石刻藝術受到了佛教的影響,故無論是石像、石窟,都和以前的造型理念有所差異。

  The stone carving art in the northern and Southern Dynasties has always been a unique position in Chinese art history.   南朝天祿石雕,高22公分。其狀身若虎,頭類獅,頭頂一獨角下垂,嘴大牙銳,下頜一束卷須,身雙翼,昂首怒 目,前左蹄抓一怪物,圓形的長尾 撐著地面,大有一躍而騰之勢。《后漢書 ·靈帝紀》天祿注 “鄧州南陽縣北有兩石獸,鐫 共膊,一曰天祿,一曰辟邪,據此天祿、辟邪并獸名”。又,孟康注 “一角者或為天祿, 兩角者或為辟邪。” 用虎豹等動物的形象制鎮,有避邪惡的用意,漢代陵墓前常立石虎,是為了驅除地 下 的魑魅魍魎。應劭 《風俗通義》記載 “網象畏虎”。漢人還創造出了名叫 “天祿、辟 邪”的神獸,漢銅鏡銘:“距虛辟邪除群兇”。《急救篇》說:“射魅辟邪除群兇。”它所能避除的就不單是網象了,故其造型比虎豹更為雄肆。

In addition, Meng Kang noted that "one horn may be Tianlu, and two horns may be used to ward off evil." the town is made in the image of animals such as tigers and leopards to avoid evil. Stone tigers are often erected in front of tombs in the Han Dynasty to drive away demons and monsters underground. Ying Shao's general meaning of customs records that "net elephants fear tigers". The Han people also created a divine beast called "Tianlu, ward off evil spirits". The bronze mirror of the Han Dynasty said: "keep away from the deficiency, ward off evil spirits and eliminate evil spirits". "First aid" says: "shoot evil spirits to ward off evil spirits and eliminate evil spirits." it can avoid not only net elephants, so its shape is more male than tigers and leopards.
