在十九世紀(jì)，中國發(fā)生了翻天覆地的變化，兩千多年的封建帝制被推翻，迎來了中國民國新時代。在孫中山先生指導(dǎo)下頒布了“臨時大總統(tǒng)令”中提出要“另刊新模，鼓鑄紀(jì)念幣”，隨后鑄行銅元輔幣，以十文面值的為主，在全國大量發(fā)行以取代清朝銅元。1914年，銅元正式改稱“銅幣”，民國發(fā)行的銅幣與清最大的區(qū)別是龍紋被換成了由稻穗組成的嘉禾紋，各省鑄造的銅元大多為兩面叉的國旗圖案。
