【藏品簡介】：清末以來，由于鴉片戰爭、太平天國戰爭等影響，清政府出現大規模財政危機，軍餉嚴重不足，銅材奇缺，無奈之下，咸豐三年底清廷戶部下令各省鑄造計值大錢。面值由當十直至當千不等。作為江南第一大錢局的寶蘇局于咸豐四年初開鑄當五十、當百面值大錢，至咸豐五年停鑄，鑄行時間短短一年多，卻鑄造了可觀數量的大錢。
“咸豐”是清文宗的年號，咸豐年間正值太平天國革命運動的高潮時期。此時民怨沸騰，清政府為了茍延殘喘，在錢幣鑄行上大做文章，將財政危機轉嫁到老百姓身上。相繼推出“咸豐通寶”“咸豐元寶”種類繁多的錢幣。咸豐大錢的當值有多種。寶文當十，當五十大多用“重寶”，當百以上用“元寶”。但也有錢局兼用幾種寶文。咸豐大錢的錢文書法，各局自成體系，差異明顯。
