中國的古錢幣“大泉五十”流傳久遠(yuǎn)，這枚古錢幣是西漢王莽所鑄造。西漢晚期，王莽篡位，建立新朝，先后對(duì)貨幣制度進(jìn)行4次改革，雖然都以失敗告終，卻留下了一批制作精良的錢幣。

本品面文“大泉五十”四字，篆書書體，直讀。其字謄寫工致有加，字形巨細(xì)適中，整體結(jié)構(gòu)規(guī)范協(xié)調(diào)，筆劃橫直直立，凸顯莊重端美，書相威風(fēng)凜凜典型，本色書風(fēng)神韻。本品鑄制十分精整，其直徑約為28毫米，重約9.1克，鑄體較之尺度品更顯料足而厚實(shí)，類折二巨細(xì)。復(fù)觀鑄相，方正圓矩，坦平地章，穿輪更是干清潔凈。其字廓紋飾皆深竣挺秀，鼓凸自然有度，錢文筆劃較為纖細(xì)，清晰可辨，緣接地章渾圓。顯而易見，其鑄相特征典型，鑄制品質(zhì)乃屬優(yōu)等，彰顯了王莽鑄幣精造之特色，正是其時(shí)官爐出品，開門鑄相，毫無疑問。

大泉五十"的意思是一枚當(dāng)五十枚五銖錢的大錢，一枚"大泉五十"，重量只及漢五銖錢的兩個(gè)半重，卻要當(dāng)五十個(gè)五銖錢用。這就意味著，新朝每發(fā)行一枚大錢，就要從百姓手中奪走四十七個(gè)半五銖錢財(cái)富，為了防假私鑄，"大泉五十"自是精工制造。

大泉五十，在我國古錢幣鑄造史占有多個(gè)第一：第一枚稱“大”的錢幣，第一枚稱錢為泉的錢幣，第一枚具體記值（值五十枚五銖）的錢幣。此后：新朝六泉中的其它五泉、貨泉、布泉，三國之吳國孫權(quán)鑄大泉五百、大泉當(dāng)千、大泉二千、大泉五千，十六國前涼鑄涼造新泉，北朝北周鑄布泉，唐高宗鑄乾封泉寶，十國南唐鑄永通泉貨，遼鑄通行泉貨，直至明代（元順帝至正二十四年 ---1364年，朱元璋政權(quán)于江西行省設(shè)貨泉局，后改名為寶泉局。洪武元年---1368年在各行省相繼設(shè)立寶泉局）、清代設(shè)立寶泉局（戶部造幣廠）等等，可見其影響深遠(yuǎn)。正源于此，錢文錢大泉五十（此錢歷史深厚淵博）亦受民間器重，值得珍藏。
