明嘉靖、萬歷五彩是明代彩瓷中最著名的品種之一。其色調(diào)純正、絢彩斑斕，可以與著名的永樂、宣德青花瓷相媲美。另外，人們往往將“嘉靖、萬歷五彩”與“成化斗彩”并提，把它譽為明代制瓷業(yè)的一大成就。嘉靖五彩，主要紅彩是“棗皮紅或黃上紅”、黃彩是“蜜臘黃”、紫是“赭紫”、綠是“大綠、淺綠”、孔雀藍或青花代替(青花是回青料)。嘉靖五彩瓷，紋飾都比較纖細繁密。萬歷五彩幾乎完全為青花五彩，其裝飾題材與嘉靖時大致相同，但用筆豪放不羈，畫法更顯樸實稚拙。萬歷五彩除多數(shù)為“濃艷五彩”外，尚有極少量的“淡雅五彩”，加之采用“開光圖案”工藝，這又為萬歷五彩的一個顯著特征。
