【藏品簡介】：咸豐元寶是中國古代錢幣之一。清朝咸豐年間，太平天國農民起義發展迅猛，并在江蘇南京建都，此時清政府賴以鑄錢之用的滇銅（云南省出產的銅料），因道路阻斷而無法運進北京。一方面是鎮壓起義急需大量的軍餉開銷，一方面是鑄錢的原材料告缺，給清政府造成了嚴重的財政困難，最終迫使清政府自咸豐三年開始發行紙幣和改鑄大錢來彌補財政虧空。
Xianfeng Yuanbao is one of the ancient Chinese coins. During the Xianfeng Period of the Qing Dynasty, the peasant uprising of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom developed rapidly, and the capital of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom was established in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. On the one hand, the suppression of the uprising was in urgent need of a large amount of military expenses; on the other hand, the shortage of raw materials for casting money caused serious financial difficulties to the Qing government, which eventually forced the Qing government to issue paper money and cast large money to make up for the financial deficit since the third year of Xianfeng.
咸豐元寶一直被收藏家們視作無價之寶。地域性政權發行貨幣的時間也相當短，加上流通地域狹小，所鑄貨幣價值不菲。另外，由于發行紙鈔，導致銅幣發行量較少，故價格也較高。古錢幣的背部多為光面，也有少數有星紋、月紋、四出紋、祥云紋、瑞雀紋等特殊記號和表示錢監、鑄造年代的文字。咸豐元寶背星月紋大錢，目前相對來看，五十、當百稍多，其中尤以當五百少見，當千尤為少見。
