熙寧為宋神宗（1068年）時(shí)期鑄造的。宋英宗熙寧元年（公元1068年）鑄“熙寧元寶”，皆小平銅錢(qián)；熙寧四年（公元1071年）鑄“熙寧重寶”當(dāng)十錢(qián)，這是為經(jīng)略西北邊陲所出。到熙寧六年時(shí)（公元1073年）改為折三使用，后又改為折二，從此每年發(fā)行折二錢(qián)。此外還有“熙寧重寶”鐵錢(qián)，有小平、當(dāng)五兩種，錢(qián)文楷書(shū)旋讀。制作多亦精好，存世較少。如今在世的精品古錢(qián)幣雖然并不多，但是每枚精品古幣價(jià)值卻是不菲。銅是一種比較穩(wěn)定的金屬，在常溫下不易生銹。要經(jīng)過(guò)幾十年，甚至上百年的時(shí)間才能生成氧化銅、堿式碳酸銅等。傳世品也因空氣中氧化作用，表面有一層包漿。呈黑色或銅色。藏品包漿完美，品相較好。銹色包漿均極自然，毫無(wú)酸浸土埋、人工作舊的生硬之感。據(jù)行內(nèi)人士介紹，北宋古錢(qián)熙寧重寶是古錢(qián)幣收藏者較受歡迎的收藏品，且數(shù)量稀少，致其價(jià)格快速走高。同時(shí)，古錢(qián)幣的價(jià)值也在同步上升。從藏家和市民的接受程度看，預(yù)計(jì)后期熙寧重寶的價(jià)格還將繼續(xù)上漲。
