此壺，敞口、或圓唇，頸矮而細(xì)，扁鼓腹，三鈍錐形實(shí)足或分襠空足最妙在色，其色內(nèi)融，從黯淡中發(fā)奇光。史料記載有四十多種色澤，為世人鐘愛(ài)，其色的名稱(chēng)很多。例如，紫帶青黑似茄皮的，叫茄皮色；黑黃像藏經(jīng)紙的，叫藏經(jīng)色；黑白帶紅淡黃色的，叫褐色；如舊玉之土沁色的，叫土古色；白黃帶紅似棠梨之色的，叫棠梨色，還有黃紅色的地、套上五彩斑點(diǎn)的，叫仿宋燒斑色；比朱砂還鮮紅的斑，叫朱紅斑；輕及豬肝色、棗紅色、琥珀色、茶葉末、蟹殼青等等。明朝萬(wàn)歷年間大鑒賞家、收藏家、畫(huà)家項(xiàng)元汴（子京）說(shuō)：“宣爐之妙，在寶色內(nèi)涵珠光，外現(xiàn)澹澹穆穆。”
