金農(nóng) 字壽門(mén)，號(hào)冬心，又司農(nóng)等，仁和（今杭州）人。流寓揚(yáng)州。精鑒賞、工書(shū)畫(huà)。詩(shī)文金石。書(shū)法工隸楷。隸以樸厚見(jiàn)長(zhǎng)，楷含隸意，自成一格，號(hào)稱“漆書(shū)”。五十歲后始作畫(huà)，山水人物、佛像鞍馬、梅竹信筆揮寫(xiě)，形象拙樸，構(gòu)圖新穎，皆成別有心裁之作，為世人稱許。被稱為揚(yáng)州八家首席。

金農(nóng)的鞍馬畫(huà)繼承唐人，能在韓干等人寫(xiě)實(shí)的基礎(chǔ)上又注重意象，將筆墨的表現(xiàn)形式加以適當(dāng)?shù)目鋸垺⒆冃危@使得他筆下的馬既具備了唐人畫(huà)馬的烈性與彪悍，又顯示出金氏畫(huà)馬“迥立閶闔生長(zhǎng)風(fēng)”的俊逸風(fēng)骨。此畫(huà)墨色濃淡相交，拙樸厚重的線條色勒出馬的風(fēng)韻，天馬威武、強(qiáng)壯、俊逸、飄灑的形象躍然紙上。金農(nóng)的字得力于《天發(fā)神讖碑》和龍門(mén)造像等碑，融合漢隸、魏楷，畫(huà)中書(shū)法用筆方正、棱角分明、結(jié)構(gòu)緊湊、體勢(shì)欹側(cè)是其楷書(shū)中的佳作。秦祖永《桐陰論畫(huà)》評(píng)金農(nóng)的畫(huà)“涉筆即古，脫盡畫(huà)家習(xí)氣”，此畫(huà)足可為鐵證。
