Before the spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period in ancient China, bronze ware was a concrete embodiment of the ritual system and the aristocratic hierarchy. The size and number of bronze ware were divided into different grades according to different positions. This hierarchy declined with the decline of the Zhou Dynasty. By the spring and Autumn period, the rule of the Zhou Dynasty had disintegrated in the whole country, and all the vassal states began to fight for hegemony.
After the bronzes of the Western Zhou Dynasty, the spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period were another climax of the ancient Chinese bronzes. With the wide distribution of bronze casting workshops in various vassal regions, the casting of bronze wares has also been developed unprecedentedly. By the middle and later period of the spring and Autumn period, the types of bronzes have been increased, and the shapes and patterns of bronzes are even more unique and exquisite.

Ding can be said to be the most important type of bronze ware in the three generations. It is mainly used for cooking meat. After the Shang and Zhou dynasties, it was more used as ritual vessels for sacrifice. Due to the ritual system reform of the Zhou Dynasty, the bronze tripod of the Zhou Dynasty had a larger shape, which made people feel its solemn and stable meaning from a long view.
