光緒元寶是清朝光緒年間流通的貨幣之一。由湖北兩廣總督張之洞率先引進英國鑄幣機器鑄造銀元和銅元,之后各省紛紛仿效。共有十九個省局鑄造,除中央戶部,地方省所鑄銅元,皆在其正面上緣鐫寫省名。光緒元寶是大清光緒年流通大面值貨幣之首,是我國首批引進海外技術的印發流通貨幣,對于現今也蘊藏了一定歷史意義。廣東省造光緒元寶在中國近代機器鑄幣史上屬一個大系列,其鑄期歷時甚長(從光緒22年—光緒34年[1896至1908年]),歷經十余載,幣模幾經更替,即使同一鑄造年份亦往往由于修模、幣材、工藝技術、工廠管理等諸多因素,造成版別異常繁雜。

廣東省造光緒元寶庫平七錢二分是清代廣東省公開鑄行的第三套機制銀幣。為我國晚清自鑄機制銀幣的典范。光緒十三年正月(1887年2月)張之洞上奏朝廷請許廣東試鑄銀元。同年3月光緒皇帝發布上諭命張之洞“聽候諭旨遵行。”次年清政府迫于抵制外洋減少白銀流失之需,批準了其請求。光緒十六年(1890年)廣東省錢局造幣廠根據清政府欽定體制,將錢文改鏨蟠龍之外,以“廣東省造”和庫平重量漢文改到正面,廣為鼓鑄第三版“光緒元寶”,至光緒三十四年,朝廷將貨幣按三個等級鑄造流通,分別是七錢二分(一元)、一錢四分四厘(二角)、七分二厘(一角),主要由天津的造幣總廠鑄造,北洋、南洋(江南)、湖北、廣東是四個分廠,也有鑄造,但流通量不大。

Beiyang, Nanyang (Jiangnan), Hubei, and Guangdong are four branch plants. There are also castings, but the circulation is not large.
