民國成立后，銅元仍繼續(xù)大量流通使用。1914年，銅元正式改稱“銅幣”，民國發(fā)行的銅幣與清最大的區(qū)別是龍紋被換成了由稻穗組成的嘉禾紋。各省鑄造的銅元大多為兩面叉的國旗圖案，有標(biāo)注各省造的，并有“開國紀(jì)念幣”或“中華民國銅幣”字樣。大體上可以分為四個(gè)品種，分別是楷銅小吊纓，楷銅大吊纓，隸銅版，其中隸銅版又分為外線短和外線長兩個(gè)版別。
