民國二十三年，上海中央造幣廠鑄造中華民國二十三年雙帆幣。有壹圓和中圓兩種幣值。當時銀幣已經鑄就一部分，并且已經送到中央銀行準備正式發行時，正值國民黨政府推行“法幣”政策，以中央、中國、交通三大銀行發行的紙幣為法定貨幣，白銀收歸國有，限期以法幣兌換銀幣，銀圓已不成合法流通貨幣。故雙帆幣沒有正式發行流通。中央造幣廠停鑄此幣。中央銀行將未發行的銀元退回中央造幣廠熔化，僅有數額極少的銀幣流入民間，存世極罕。

此幣正面中央為孫中山側面像，上方書“中華民國”四字，下鑄有“中華民國開國紀念幣”隸書字樣，左上、右上位置各有一個五花星，周邊有珠點、齒狀裝飾。背面中央為隸書“壹圓”二字，左右各輔以嘉禾圖案，上側有“MEMENTO”(紀念幣)字樣，下側為“BIRTHOFREPUBLICOFCHINA”(中華民國誕生)，左右上方分列五角星圖案。此幣記錄了辛亥革命驚天動地的偉大歷史，由于歷經百年風雨，加上當時鑄造數量極為有限，存世量極為稀少，尤其是品相好的更為稀缺，極具收藏價值。
