光緒元寶是清朝光緒年間流通的貨幣之一，鑄造始于1887年，于1912年結束。光緒元寶是大清光緒年流通大面值貨幣之首，是我國首批引進海外技術的印發流通貨幣，對于現今也蘊藏了一定歷史意義。由湖北兩廣總督張之洞率先引進英國鑄幣機器鑄造銀元和銅元，之后各省紛紛仿效。共有十九個省局鑄造，除中央戶部，地方省所鑄銅元，皆在其正面上緣鐫寫省名，包括廣東錢局在內，許多造幣機均訂購自著名的英國倫敦伯明翰造幣有限公司。英國大工業的介入，使銀幣也沾染上西方色彩。
Guangxu Yuanbao was one of the currency in circulation during the reign of Emperor Guangxu of Qing Dynasty. It was minted in 1887 and ended in 1912. Guangxu Yuanbao is the first large denomination currency in circulation in Guangxu year of Qing Dynasty. Zhang Zhidong, governor of Guangdong and Guangxi provinces in Hubei Province, was the first to introduce British coin making machines to cast silver and copper coins, and then all provinces followed suit. A total of 19 provincial coins were minted by 19 provinces. Except for the central household office and local provinces, the name of the province was engraved on the obverse. Many mints, including the Guangdong money Bureau, were purchased from the famous Birmingham Mint Co., Ltd., London, England. With the intervention of British industry, silver coins were also stained with western color.
光緒三十年至三十二年，據當時漕督奏準，在江蘇省清江浦造一所名為清江銅元局的新錢幣鑄造局，清江省造光緒元寶便以此應運而生。此枚“清江光緒元寶當制錢十文”，正面中心“光緒元寶”四字直讀，珠圈上環鑄滿文介紹，珠圈下緣鑄“當制錢十文”五字，兩側為列“清江”二字。背面中央為獨特蟠龍圖案環繞，并鑄有英文環繞。錢面設計優雅，鑄造精良，包漿入骨，且存世量極為稀少，錢幣正面鮮然可見滿漢文化的融合，而錢背卻明確標示了西方文化的介入，極具歷史價值！

值得注意的是，此幣為錯版幣。正常情況下，光緒元寶正面中軸線與背面中軸線應對中，而此枚錢幣背面龍頭位置偏移，與一般的不同，因而屬于錯版幣。出現錯版幣是因為鑄造錢幣時一時疏忽造成的，這種情況非常少，因而錯版數量寥寥無幾，輾轉百多年歷史的無窮洗禮，能完好無缺保存至今，更是珍罕無比，價值彌足珍貴！曾有一枚錯版光緒元寶拍出了472萬的高價，可以說是同類型光緒元寶2倍的價格，這也是此幣值得收藏的價值所在。
