北京同仁堂虎骨酒1924年在“萊比錫”國際博覽會獲獎(jiǎng)，1993年，中國簽署了《瀕危野生動植物種國際貿(mào)易公約》，在這份公約的附錄一，明確了犀牛和虎是國際上重點(diǎn)保護(hù)的瀕危野生動物。

同年5月29日，國務(wù)院頒布了《關(guān)于禁止犀牛角和虎骨貿(mào)易的通知》，重申禁止犀牛角和虎骨的一切貿(mào)易活動。其中第三條規(guī)定：“取消犀牛角和虎骨藥用標(biāo)準(zhǔn)，今后不得再用犀牛角和虎骨制藥。”同年，《中華人民共和國藥典》也刪去了“虎骨”這一項(xiàng)。于是，虎骨酒在全國范圍內(nèi)停產(chǎn)。
