清朝是中國歷史最后一個大一統封建王朝，共傳十帝，享國二百七十六年。1644年大順攻占明朝國都北京，駐守山海關的明將吳三桂降清，攝政王多爾袞率領清軍入關，同年順治帝遷都北京，從此清朝取代明朝成為全國統治者。軍事上在隨后的二十余年間平定大順、大西、南明等政權。后又平定三藩之亂、統一鄭氏臺灣，逐步掌控全國。
