順治通寶是清世祖順治年間(1644-1661年)所鑄錢，為小五帝錢之一。當時明朝勢力逐漸衰弱，清朝漸漸崛起，將明朝取而代之，尤其是在滿清入關之后，明朝茍延殘喘，距離滅亡僅有一步之遙。順治皇帝登基之后，為了鞏固自己的統治，使得清朝政權更加穩定，其發行了順治通寶。

順治通寶背延古錢幣為順治三年六月開鑄于陜西延綏鎮錢局（今陜西榆林市西北）。據史書記載，榆林鎮始建于明洪武初年，最初只是綏德衛的一個屯所。成化七年（公元1471年）置榆林衛，成化九年（公元1473年）巡撫都御史余子俊重修榆林城后，把鎮治移駐榆林。自成化九年之后，又經成化、弘治、正德三次較大規模的擴建之后，才最后定形，地方史書稱這三次拓展修筑活動為“三拓榆陽”。

到了清順治三年六月（1646年），榆林改稱延綏鎮，并設錢局鼓鑄順治通寶背延”字古錢幣。順治十一年正月戶部尚書車克題“查明停減爐座鑄本錢息事本”里明確提到：“延綏錢局順治三年六月開鑄，搜羅廢銅并動兵餉辦買，鑄出制錢搭放兵餉。”這一記載成為研究順治時期延綏局鑄幣始末的主要證據。
