北宋時期，歷任皇帝酷愛瓷器，當(dāng)時瓷器燒造業(yè)空前發(fā)達，瓷窯遍布大江南北。這一時期誕生的汝、哥、官、定、鈞五大名窯，其燒造工藝登上中國陶瓷之巔峰——而在這五大名窯中，專為皇宮生產(chǎn)御用瓷器的汝窯，又被稱為五窯之魁。
