自古以來，紫砂壺與奇石、蘭花被譽為文人三雅。紫砂壺因不奪茶香又無熟湯之氣，加之壺壁吸附茶氣，且日久使用空壺里注入沸水也有茶香，所以長期以來，紫砂壺被人們推崇為理想的注茶器。紫砂壺是中國特有的手工制造陶土工藝品，制作原料為紫砂泥，其風格高雅脫俗，能較長時間保持茶葉的色、香、味，且因經茶水泡、手摩挲，會變為古玉色而倍受人們青睞。是具有收藏價值的“古董”，名家大師的作品往往一壺難求。

早在明代就有“名手所作一壺重不數兩，價重每一二十金，能使土與黃金爭價”，清代亦有“宮中艷說大彬壺，海外競求鳴遠碟”之說，紫砂壺價格貴的不是原料，也不僅是稀缺，而是其文化底蘊，那些有文物價值和歷史檔案性質的紫砂名壺第一批沖到了天價。說到這就不得不提制作紫砂壺的大師—顧景舟（1915-1996），原名景洲。別稱：曼希、瘦萍、武陵逸人、荊南山樵。自號壺叟、老萍。宜興紫砂名藝人，中國美術家協會會員，中國工藝美術大師，顧景舟也是現代陶藝家中最有成就與威望的一位，他的作品以紫砂壺為主，一生所創作的壺型達數十種之多，而且件件都是精品之作。其高超的壺藝境界與他有著深厚的文化修養密不可分。他非常重視“有沒有文化積累，是民間藝人從藝歷程中最重要的門檻，也是大家與一般匠人的重要區別”這一道理，生前致力于創建紫砂工藝廠，其作品不但深具東方特有藝術特色，更賦予時代氣息，堪稱為紫砂壺之一代宗師！

周桂珍，宜興紫砂陶制作技藝非遺傳承人，1958年進入紫砂工藝廠。早期拜師王寅春和顧景舟先生，退休后定居北京。40余年的創造生涯，使她在紫砂藝術上取得了顯著的成績。先后獲得高級工藝美術師、江蘇省工藝美術大師、中國陶瓷藝術大師、中國工藝美術大師等稱號，是三位女大師之一，其作品在海內外都享有很高的聲譽。她的紫砂作品大氣、豁達、灑脫中也蘊含著女性的秀麗與和美。周桂珍的藝術，具有最明顯的兩個特色，一個是扎實的功力、嚴謹的制作，她可以細到毫巔，嚴到極處，在紫砂藝術上取得了顯著的成績，其作品在海內外都享有很高的聲譽，值得一藏。
