此銀質大明元寶，寶銀的兩端呈圓孤形并向上隆起，高翹如船狀，整個銀錠呈馬蹄形，其面有三行楷書銘文：右為“丁丑年造”，左為“四十八兩”，中間是四個楷書大字“大明元寶”，“經實測，這枚銀錠形制比較標準，造型統一，表面凹陷，錠面隱約可見澆鑄冷卻后形成的水波紋，底坐略有凸凹呈蜂窩狀。

大明元寶為嘉靖初年所鑄。明朝定陵所出土的五十兩馬蹄形銀錠，屬萬歷四十七年所鑄，錠面上文字亦是陰刻文。這是明早期銀錠所固有的特征。但到后來，就兼用陽文，并逐漸成為慣例。陽文多是打印上去的，或鑄造的，沒有事后刻上去的。近年來隨著銀錠市場的復蘇，特別是在港澳臺，明清銀錠屢拍高價，所以至大明元寶真品實數稀少。近年來，在國內各大拍賣公司春秋兩季藝術品拍賣郵幣專場上，金銀藏品中的又一個“黑馬”品種古代銀錠脫穎而出，受到了投資收藏者的熱烈追捧，成交價格迭創新高。銀錠大約出現在三國和南北朝時期，至隋唐時已日益完善，唐代白銀貨幣的形制以銀餅和銀錠為主。明清時期是我國銀錠鑄造、使用、流通的鼎盛時期，其品種頗多，有五十兩、十兩、五兩、四兩、三兩、二兩和一兩等各種規格。明清銀錠還有官鑄和私鑄之分，官鑄的銀錠大多鑄有銀局名，私鑄的銀錠一般則鑄有私銀錢號名等。在收藏市場上，同規格的官鑄銀錠與私鑄銀錠的價格相差很大，官鑄銀錠的標價往往是私鑄銀錠的數倍甚至十多倍。

There are many varieties of silver ingots, including 52, 12, 52, 42, 32, 22 and 12. Silver ingots in Ming and Qing Dynasties can be divided into official casting and private casting. Most of the silver ingots cast by officials have the name of silver bureau, while those cast by private people generally have the name of private money.
