古錢幣可以說是一種年代最久、歷史最長、數(shù)量最多的錢幣，也是深受古玩收藏愛好者青睞的一種藏品。四川當(dāng)三十銅元是清代銅元中的頂級名譽(yù)品，鑄造精美，存世極罕，素為泉界耆宿汲汲追尋之名珍， 根據(jù)清代戶部的要求，各省制造銅元，須援引廣東成法，成色、圖案及面值以廣東省銅元為標(biāo)準(zhǔn)。

四川光緒當(dāng)三十銅元，正面中央為一花星，其外環(huán)繞“光緒元寶”四字以及珠圈，上面上緣鑄“四川省造”，下緣鑄“當(dāng)三十”，左右兩側(cè)鑄滿文“寶源”背面中間鑄龍圖（按照龍紋不同，克分別為“水龍”版和“飛龍版”），外環(huán)珠圈一道，上緣鑄英文“四川”，下緣標(biāo)有阿拉伯?dāng)?shù)字“30”及“文”的英文字母“CASH”左右兩側(cè)各有一花星。水龍又分有眼皮和無眼皮二個版，正面還有大馬齒、細(xì)馬齒以及高低滿文之分。

四川當(dāng)三十銅元，是未被獲準(zhǔn)發(fā)行的試鑄幣。未被獲準(zhǔn)鑄發(fā)的原因，很可能是由于當(dāng)三十的幣值不符合戶部關(guān)于銅元鑄造的規(guī)定。中國的銅元，在初創(chuàng)階段，各省是各自為政的，成色、圖案參差繁雜，幣制十分紊亂。清政府曾不斷對幣制進(jìn)行整頓，力圖劃一。雖然收效不大，但還是顯現(xiàn)了漸趨統(tǒng)一的趨勢。四川當(dāng)三十銅元鑄于光緒三十年間，已處于“光緒元寶”銅元的后期階段。根據(jù)戶部的要求，當(dāng)時各省鑄造銅元，須援引廣東成法，成色、圖案及面值以廣東省銅元為標(biāo)準(zhǔn)。廣東省銅元的幣值分別為二十文、十文、五文三等。顯然，四川當(dāng)三十銅元的鑄造是不符合這一標(biāo)準(zhǔn)的。此外，在清代的銅元鑄造中，面值當(dāng)三十者，唯有四川一家。看來，在銅元面值問題上，其它省份的造幣廠都是循規(guī)蹈矩的。

The value of copper coins in Guangdong Province is twenty, ten and five respectively. Obviously, the casting of Dang 30 Copper Dollars in Sichuan does not meet this standard. In addition, in the copper coin casting in Qing Dynasty, the face value was 30, and only one in Sichuan. It seems that the mints in other provinces follow the rules when it comes to the face value of copper coins.
這種四川省造“光緒元寶”當(dāng)三十因不符合幣制而被“禁令行用”理所當(dāng)然，四川銅元局也無理申辯。正因為是禁止流通的試鑄樣幣，數(shù)量自然有限，流傳至今當(dāng)然十分罕見。四川省造“光緒元寶”當(dāng)三十被中外泉家和各種書刊評級為大珍當(dāng)之無愧。
