光緒元寶為清代貨幣，光緒年間鑄行金、銀幣較多。當時正值洋務運動時期，這股思潮也影響到了鑄幣業，兩廣總督張之洞曾于光緒十三年委托使英大臣在英國訂購全套造幣機器，并在廣東錢局首鑄機制銀元和銅元。其后，各省紛紛仿效，購制國外機械鑄造銀。包括廣東錢局在內，許多造幣機均訂購自著名的英國倫敦伯明翰造幣有限公司。

目前，在我國近代錢幣中，有一種久負盛名的銀幣，它被列為中國近代機制幣十大珍，也被人們千百年來的尋找與挖掘，這便是廣東省造雙龍壽字幣。目前所知，廣東省造光緒元寶壽字雙龍銀幣有三種版式，即直徑為45毫米的庫平重一兩銀幣和直徑為39毫米的庫平七錢二、七錢二分的銀幣，三種版式的銀幣設計風格一樣，但是在細節上有很多區別。此枚銀幣為庫平七錢二的版式，正面珠圈內鑄有滿、漢文“光緒元寶”四字，珠圈外上鐫“廣東省造”四字，下鐫“庫平七錢二”五字，左右兩側分鐫蝙蝠圖案。背面珠圈內鑄圓形“壽”字，珠圈外鑄雙龍戲珠圖案。因蝙蝠的“蝠”字與幸福的“福”字同音，把蝙蝠圖案鑄在幣面上，系取“蝠”、“福”兩字諧音。將它與背面的“壽”字相對應取意，便構成“福壽雙全”之意。

Because bat's character "bat" is homonymous with "Fu" of happiness, the bat pattern is cast on the coin surface, and the homophony of "bat" and "Fu" is taken. The corresponding meaning of the word "Shou" on the back means "both happiness and longevity".
關于“廣東雙龍壽字幣一兩、七錢二分、七錢二”銀幣的鑄造，史料中沒有確切記載，坊間有三種觀點，一種觀點認為：這種銀幣是光緒三十年1904年鑄造，為紀念慈禧太后70大壽而鑄。第二種觀點認為是：光緒二十年1894年戶部推行“一兩本位”時廣東造幣廠為慶賀慈禧60大壽所鑄之幣。第三種觀點：此幣是1898年光緒權利到達巔峰之時而鑄造，只是因為宮廷政變，光緒帝被慈禧投入監獄后此幣才未能流通。以上三種觀點都有不少擁護者。且不論哪一種觀點是正確的，單從收藏價值來說，三種觀點都說明了是為祝壽而鑄造的“紀念幣”，工藝精湛。且由于是限量發行，或未能正式流通，存世稀少。

此七錢二品相較好，字體清晰，形制規整，質地優良，字體筆法流暢，紋飾刻制工細，其色澤自然，不論是文字還是圖案，都顯得自然細膩，深淺合適。而廣東省當時鑄造此幣的目的是奉獻清廷以祝慈禧太后萬壽，所以鑄額不大，大多奉獻給清廷或贈于當時的達官顯貴，見于民間流通的很少，故更顯珍貴。是家喻戶曉的罕見銀幣珍品，收藏價值和升值空間都值得期待。
