After the victory of the 1911 Revolution, the Qing emperor abdicated and the Republic of China was founded. Sun Yat Sen, the pioneer of China's democratic revolution, took office as the provisional president of the Republic of China. In his "Interim presidential decree", he proposed that "new models should be published and commemorative coins should be forged". In 1914, Tongyuan was officially renamed "copper coin". The biggest difference between the copper coins issued in the Republic of China and the Qing Dynasty was that the dragon pattern was replaced by Jiahe pattern composed of rice ears. Most of the copper coins cast in each province are flags crossed on both sides, with the words "Founding commemorative coin" or "copper coin of the Republic of China".
In the second year of the Republic of China, that is, in 1913, Hu Jingyi, then the commander-in-chief of the Sichuan military government, continued to cast the "Han" type coins, and at the same time, he added 200 Wen large denomination copper coins with a weight of seven coins. In the center of the coin, there is a denomination of "two hundred Wen", with jiasui pattern on both sides. The year number of the upper side is "the second year of the Republic of China", and the lower side is "made by Sichuan MINT", with cross shaped stars on the left and right. On the back of the coin, there are two crossed banners on the back, with a bead ring on the outside and a border on the top and bottom. It was also the only currency in English used in Sichuan copper yuan during the period of the Republic of China. Since the national government issued a unified coin mold, local coins stopped casting and issuing, so the quantity of coins was small, the circulation time was short, and it was very precious.
The Double Flag coin was first coined in the period of the Republic of China. The Republic of China has only existed for several decades in the history of China. Therefore, during the period of war and frequent civil war, it is not easy for the coin to remain intact after endless years. It has high cultural relics collection value, historical and cultural value and art appreciation value. Although there are many versions of coins in the Republic of China, this kind of Quanzhen commemorative coin with "two hundred characters" in regular script on the front and two-sided flag of "Republic of China" on the back is rare in today's coin collection market.
The two banners in a certain area of Sichuan Province should be made of copper. In the early years of the Republic of China, Sichuan warlords set up their own factories and minted coins privately. Even a few of them were not large-scale. Most of them purchased hand-operated machines and tools for small-scale casting. Their engraving and casting techniques could not be compared with those of Chengdu and Chongqing mints. Therefore, the quantity of two hundred red copper tassels with poor casting is very few, even less than that of brass. The double flag and 200 Wen straight tassel plate, whether made of red or brass, can be divided into several small formats according to the size of the ears, the presence or absence of awns, the length of awns, and the grain density.
