1899年光緒二十五年奉天機(jī)器局鑄造，該套銀幣打破了中國歷代以兩錢紀(jì)重的習(xí)慣，是我國較早采用以圓計(jì)值的流通銀幣之一。清代的奉天省就是今天的遼寧省，清政府于光緒二十二年根據(jù)盛京將軍依克唐阿的奏請，批準(zhǔn)設(shè)立并籌建奉天機(jī)器局以鑄造機(jī)制銀幣，從德國進(jìn)口鍋爐和以蒸汽機(jī)為動(dòng)力的鑄幣機(jī)器，光緒二十三年(1897年)奉天機(jī)器局建成。根據(jù)歷史文獻(xiàn)記載，當(dāng)年該局就鑄行了沒有干支紀(jì)年的“奉天省造光緒元寶”，該幣鑄額小傳世甚罕，不為廣大錢幣收藏者和研究者所熟悉，所有由民間人士編撰的銀幣圖錄中都沒有該銀幣的實(shí)物圖片資料。光緒二十五年，該局鑄造發(fā)行了一套以圓為單位的銀幣，光緒二十八年(1902年)，奉天機(jī)器局的造幣廠從機(jī)器局分離并更名為奉天銀元局。

此銀元是公元一八九九年（光緒二十五年）由當(dāng)時(shí)奉天機(jī)器局鑄造。是品特征：在幣正面中鐫一蟠龍，環(huán)蟠龍銘'大清光緒二十五年奉天機(jī)器局造’十四個(gè)字，即年號(hào)和鑄局名稱，幣在幣背面中鐫一小珠圈，在這小珠圈中銘'一圓’二字，即幣值，在小珠圈外環(huán)銘英文'FUNG TIEN PROV INCE’，在其左右各鐫一六花星，環(huán)英文又鐫一珠圈，在珠圈至廓緣廓肉環(huán)銘滿文，幣外緣勻鑄邊道。銀幣兩面的文字、珠圈和龍圖飽滿厚重，具有很強(qiáng)的立體感，并且圖案清晰自然，是收藏中難得的精品，實(shí)物存世甚少，極具有收藏價(jià)值。
