泰和重寶”是金章宗于泰和四年(1204)始鑄的青銅錢。據(jù)《金史·食貨志》載：“泰和四年八月鑄大錢，一值十，篆書曰‘泰和重寶’與鈔參行。”
自公元1115年太祖完顏阿骨打建國以來，金代在長達(dá)40余年里沒有本朝的貨幣，不斷沿用遼宋舊錢，“泰和”錢的鑄造，方便了貨幣交流，促進(jìn)了商品流通。“泰和重寶”就錢文而言，有玉箸篆和瘦金體之分，猶有北宋宣政之余風(fēng)。“泰和”寓意祥和、吉利，安泰和順、有國泰民安的意味。用來寄予人們良好的祝福。
“泰和重寶”是金朝第六個(gè)皇帝金章宗完顏璟鑄造的。金人占領(lǐng)中原后，雖有自己的文字，但受漢族先進(jìn)文化的影響，漢化程度已經(jīng)有了很大程度的提高，加上金宋貿(mào)易頻繁，所以金代所鑄錢幣，基本都用漢文。這些錢幣非常精美，技術(shù)水平很高，銅質(zhì)優(yōu)良，體態(tài)渾厚，制作精美。字體為篆字體，精純典雅，分別位于四出紋之間，布局規(guī)矩協(xié)調(diào)；后背四出紋間無字。幣邊圓廓正，地章坦平，幣面字廓、四出線條深綴如刀刻，毫無粘連，與書載一致。中四棱孔橫直豎立，規(guī)范端莊，美不勝收。絲毫也不亞于同一時(shí)期的兩宋。
