Multicolor is one of the methods of porcelain glaze painting. It may not have all colors, but red, green and yellow are indispensable. The five colors, which began in Xuande period of Ming Dynasty, are represented by the products of Jiajing and Wanli.

In recent years, with the rapid development of domestic art market, collectors' understanding of ancient porcelain art is deepening, and collectors with strong economic strength begin to pay attention to the collection of colorful porcelain from official kilns. In 2000, at Sotheby's auction in Hong Kong, a Ming Jiajing colorful fish and algae covered jar was quite eye-catching, which attracted the competition of collectors from all over the world. Finally, it was sold for HK $44.4475 million, becoming the highest price of Chinese porcelain at that time. As a result, the inland collectors began to pay more attention to the five-color porcelain of Ming Dynasty official kilns, and made great achievements since then. At Christie's auction in Hong Kong in 2002, a Wanli multicolored dragon pattern gold goblet was sold for HK $4.7425 million. At Sotheby's auction in Hong Kong in 2003, a Ming Jiajing multicolored fish and algae jar was won by a mainland collector for 4.34 million yuan. In 2006, a Ming Wanli colorful figure jar with a lid was sold for 1.21 million yuan at Chengxuan auction in Beijing.

However, the rising trend of multicolored porcelain in the Ming Dynasty has been relatively slow. On the contrary, such multicolored porcelain is the favorite of many collectors in the international market. The disparity between hot and cold is inevitable There is a huge market for multicolored porcelain in the Ming Dynasty. With the more rational collection of inland collectors, Ming Dynasty multicolored porcelain will inevitably cause a new round of collection boom, and its value will eventually rise to its due position. This Ming Dynasty Wanli colorful dragon and phoenix pattern jar is of great value.
