顏色釉瓷是歷代官窯的重要品種，黃釉在其中的等級最高，“黃”與“皇”同音，因而黃色也成為皇家的至尊之色，明清時期只有皇家才能使用，是皇家控制最為嚴格的釉色。《國朝宮史》曰：“內外皆黃者，唯帝后用”。黃釉創燒于明初景德鎮官窯，以鐵為著色劑，后世皆以明代弘治黃釉為楷模。

抱月瓶是清代的一種瓷器。亦稱“寶月瓶”，因瓶腹似圓月，故名。此黃釉海水龍紋抱月瓶胎釉細潤，精巧端莊，瓶身扁圓，形似滿月；全器以黃釉繪就，口沿以下黃釉繪海水龍紋，腹部巨龍尤為突出，龍爪舞張，威武非常。龍身、海水紋樣繪制細膩，鱗片與海水的波紋別具細節，好似翻騰的海水也奈何不了龍身半毫。整體運筆流暢，繁而不亂，相互映襯，別有一番韻味。
