天祿者，也曰貔貅，獨角為天祿，雙角為貔貅。天祿又稱“天鹿”，也稱“挑撥”、“符撥”，是古代傳說中的瑞獸，而且與“天命”和“祿位”有關(guān)。“天祿”既是貔貅。相傳“貔貅”是一種兇猛的瑞獸，而這種猛獸分為雌性和雄性，雄性為“貔”，雌性為“貅”。但是現(xiàn)在流傳下來的都沒有雌雄了。古代時這種瑞獸是分一角和兩角的，一角的稱為“天祿”，兩角的稱為“辟邪”。后來到了唐宋后，漸漸地也沒分一角或兩角，并且多以一角造型為主。中國南方人喜歡把這種瑞獸稱為“貔貅”，北方人則稱其為“辟邪”。至于天祿，則較小有人用以稱這種瑞獸，還有人將它稱為“怪獸”或者“四不像”
