軍政府造四川銅幣”是辛亥革命時(shí)期的產(chǎn)物。1911年12月發(fā)生“成都兵變”,以尹昌衡、羅綸為正副都督的四川軍政府取代了成立僅12天的大漢四川軍政府。新的四川軍政府成立之初即面臨著需用日繁、度支日絀的財(cái)政困窘局面。軍政府迅速接管了四川成都造幣廠,決定鑄造“四川銅幣”以應(yīng)急。民國(guó)元年(1912年)4月,四川成都造幣廠奉四川軍政府之命,開(kāi)模鑄造“軍政府造四川銅幣”(也稱(chēng)“漢”字銅元)。
開(kāi)鑄之初僅發(fā)行十文、二十文兩種錢(qián)幣。同年5月,又添鑄當(dāng)五十文一種,民國(guó)2年,除繼續(xù)鑄造十文、二十文、五十文銅元之外,又增鑄重五錢(qián)八分的一百文銅元。
這枚四川銅幣正面珠圈內(nèi)直讀“四川銅幣”四字,正中飾以芙蓉花紋,上方環(huán)“軍政府造”四字,下邊為幣值“當(dāng)制錢(qián)一百文”;背面中央用十八小圈繞一大圈,圈內(nèi)篆文“漢”字,以直線紋為底,十分美觀,上環(huán)為“中華民國(guó)二年”字樣,因此此幣又被收藏者稱(chēng)為“漢”字銅元。
