龍鳳琺瑯熏香筒是清代皇家自用瓷器中最珍貴的一種，創造于清康熙年間，發展于雍正時期，在乾隆早期得到了延續。
乾隆早期的龍鳳琺瑯熏香筒仍延續前兩代在宮中制造，在清宮統計中，其數量較之前兩朝有增無減。其造型更是豐富，增添了許多其它題材，色地也富于變化，畫彩多由專攻畫家承擔；等等，始終保持了一貫正統的宮廷藝術風格。
據清宮檔案記載，乾隆十分重視琺琺瑯熏香筒的妥善保管，對每件琺瑯彩瓷器均配用楠木匣貯藏于乾清宮琺瑯瓷的專庫內，以此可見琺瑯彩的珍貴從古就有。它的珍貴在于康熙帝為了研制它把作坊設于皇宮；雍正帝為了它研制自用料，并對素胎嚴格要求，每件琺瑯彩瓷，從器型、繪畫到成品都親自把關；乾隆帝為了保護它，特設單獨專庫，每件配用楠木，其畫彩更采用了各專攻畫家等等。還有琺瑯彩瓷到乾隆中后期的制作水平越來越糙，以至到后來清宮沒再燒造此類瓷器，它的燒造年代不長，保管又在清宮，流落民間數量有限，這也是當今此類瓷器拍賣市場價一再創新高的原因。
