The dragon and phoenix enamel incense tube is the most precious kind of imperial porcelain for personal use in the Qing Dynasty. It was created during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, developed in the Yongzheng period, and continued in the early Qianlong period.
In the early Qianlong period, the dragon and phoenix enamel incense barrels were still manufactured in the palace in the previous two generations. According to the statistics of the Qing palace, the number of them has increased unabated compared with the previous two dynasties. Its modeling is even richer, adding many other themes, the colors and places are also full of changes, and the paintings are mostly undertaken by painters who specialize in painting; etc., always maintaining a consistent orthodox court art style.
According to the archives of the Qing Palace, Qianlong attached great importance to the proper custody of the enamel incense tube. Each piece of enamel color porcelain was stored in a special library of enamel porcelain in the Qianqing Palace with a nanmu box. This shows that the preciousness of enamel has existed since ancient times. . Its preciousness lies in the fact that Emperor Kangxi set up his workshop in the imperial palace to develop it; Emperor Yongzheng developed his own materials for it, and imposed strict requirements on raw materials. Every piece of enamel porcelain, from vessel shape, painting to finished product, was personally checked; Emperor Qianlong In order to protect it, a separate special library is specially set up, each piece is equipped with nanmu, and its painting color uses various specializing painters and so on. In addition, the production level of enamel colored porcelain in the middle and late Qianlong period became more and more rough, and until the Qing Palace did not burn this kind of porcelain again, its firing age was not long, and it was kept in the Qing Palace, and the number of people living in it was limited. The reason why the auction market price of this type of porcelain has repeatedly hit new highs.
