黃花梨實(shí)為呈黃褐色的“花梨”或“花櫚”。是明清硬木家具的主要用材，以心材呈黃褐色者為好。明、清時(shí)考究的木器家具都選“黃花梨”制造，其紋理或隱或現(xiàn)，色澤不靜不喧，被視作上乘佳品，備受明清匠人寵愛，特別是明清盛世的文人、士大夫之族對(duì)家具的審美情趣更使得這一時(shí)期的黃花梨家具卓而不群，無論從藝術(shù)審美、還是人工學(xué)的角度來看都無可挑剔，可稱為世界家具藝術(shù)中的珍品。
Huanghua pear is actually a yellow-brown "flower pear" or "flower palm". It is the main material of hardwood furniture in Ming and Qing Dynasties, and it is better to use the yellow-brown heartwood. 黃花梨木材的名貴程度僅次于紫檀木(因產(chǎn)地范圍比紫檀小得多，產(chǎn)量極少，又因市場炒作，黃花梨價(jià)格已遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)將紫檀甩在之后，高其數(shù)十倍)，是因?yàn)辄S花梨木的木性極為穩(wěn)定，不管寒暑都不變形、不開裂、不彎曲，有一定的韌性，適合作各種異形家具，如三彎腿，其彎曲度很大，惟黃花梨木才能制作，其它木材較難勝任。

黃花梨木色金黃而溫潤，心材顏色較深呈紅褐色或深褐色，有屢角的質(zhì)感。黃花梨木的比重較輕，可能比紅木(酸枝木)還要輕工一些，放入水中呈半沉狀態(tài)，也就是不全沉入水中也不全浮于水面。黃花梨木的紋理很清晰，如行云流水，非常美麗。最特別的是，木紋中常見的有很多木癤，這些木癤亦很平整不開裂，呈現(xiàn)出狐貍頭、老人頭及老人頭毛發(fā)等紋理，美麗可人，即為人們常說的“鬼臉兒”。明代及清代早期制作高檔的家具大多是用黃花梨木所制，由于前朝過量采伐而使得清代中期以前黃花梨木材急劇減少及至瀕臨滅絕，所以后來采用紅木代替。從已出版的明清家具資料看，黃花梨木有大材，寬半米、長兩米的獨(dú)板平頭案都可以見到。

According to the published furniture materials of Ming and Qing Dynasties, huanghuali wood has great timber, and the flat head case with a width of half a meter and a length of two meters can be seen.
