袁大頭是在鑄造的近千種近代錢幣中，存世最多、影響最大、流傳最廣的錢幣品種，它是在中華民國(guó)成立以后鑄造發(fā)行的。袁世凱頭像錢幣面值分別為壹元、中元（五角）、貳角、壹角4種；銀幣形式統(tǒng)一，成色、重量有嚴(yán)格規(guī)定，很快受到了社會(huì)認(rèn)同和接受，在國(guó)內(nèi)金融市場(chǎng)上逐步取代了清朝的龍洋，成為流通領(lǐng)域的主幣。
