觀世音菩薩(梵文:，Avalokite?vara)，觀世音來自于竺法護(hù)與其弟子譯于長安敦煌寺的 《正法華經(jīng)》。竺法護(hù)初譯"光世音" 其弟子聶道真改為"觀世音"。 玄奘新譯為觀自在，中國每略稱為觀音。
觀世音菩薩是佛教中慈悲和智慧的象征，無論在大乘佛教還是在民間信仰，都具有極其重要的地位。以觀世音菩薩為主導(dǎo)的大慈悲精神，被視為大乘佛教的根本。佛經(jīng)上說，觀世音是過去的正法明如來所現(xiàn)化，他在無量國土中，以菩薩之身到處尋聲救苦。觀世音與阿彌陀佛有著特殊的關(guān)系。他是西方三圣中的一尊， 也是一生補(bǔ)處的法身大士，是繼承阿彌陀佛位的菩薩，而且還有說觀世音就是阿彌陀佛的化身。
大清康熙年制描金觀世音菩薩老佛像，法相端莊，面部慈祥，佛音裊裊，老包漿，工藝精美，實(shí)屬罕見的藝術(shù)瑰寶。身上披一風(fēng)巾，面容清秀，五官秀美細(xì)膩，廣額彎眉，豐腴端莊。表情安然慈祥。鳳眼微啟，雙眼低垂，唇角深凹，微微上翹，浮現(xiàn)出一絲若隱若現(xiàn)的笑意，顯得妙麗莊嚴(yán)。手持凈瓶，，姿態(tài)優(yōu)雅，高貴優(yōu)雅，臺座高大，顯得亭亭玉立。
