光緒元寶是清朝光緒年間流通的貨幣之一。由湖北兩廣總督張之洞率先引進英國鑄幣機器鑄造銀元和銅元，之后各省紛紛仿效。共有十九個省局鑄造，除中央戶部，地方省所鑄銅元，皆在其正面上緣鐫寫省名。“江南省造”銀元于光緒二十三年(1897年)開鑄，初鑄銀元沒有干支紀年。因它是江南廠首次鑄造的銀元，錢幣收藏界稱其為“老江南”或“江南老龍”。

專家評述：此枚江南省造光緒元寶。重量：26.8g，直徑：3.9cm。銀幣正面中央珠圈內鐫滿漢文“光緒元寶”四字，圈外上端鐫“江南省造”，左右兩端攜鑄造年份“甲辰”，下端鐫幣重“庫平七錢二分”，背面中央飛龍圖，上下皆鐫有英文。包漿自然，保存完整，幣面文字鼓凸，形制規范，其無論文字和紋飾，皆十分精致，凸凹鮮明，文字筆劃和紋飾線條圓滾，顯示模具沖壓著力深打，致其品相精美無比，其工藝水準也是至今之偽所不能矣。
