After the fall of the Qing Dynasty, Yuan Shikai became president in April 1912. In view of the complexity of the coinage and paper money at that time, there were more than 100 kinds of Chinese and foreign currencies in circulation, with different specifications, disorderly circulation, complicated conversion, and people's resentment. Yuan Datou's "Wu Yuan" in the third year of the Republic of China was dated by yuan Datou in the period of the Republic of China. On the obverse is the left side of Yuan Shikai's military uniform, with "the third year of the Republic of China" on the top. The pattern on the back is two crossed ears of rice, with the word "Wuyuan" in the center. In the end, it was not issued because the value of the currency did not conform to the price at that time. Therefore, it failed to pass the examination and approval of the government. In this way, hundreds of trial coins were sealed up.
