中華民國十八年(1929年)，此年號孫中山像錢幣是民國二十三年上海中央造幣廠所鑄，在幣面的設計方面，雙帆幣是凝聚著千百名工藝技師的智慧源泉和美學獨特視角，品相極好，整體造型和諧，圖案設計精美，因此引得萬千藏家競相收藏。此款錢幣因鑄有孫中山肖像，且鑄造成的銀元比袁大頭略小，因而被稱為“孫小頭”。中華民國二十三年孫小頭壹圓為官政府制作，由于民國時期戰爭連綿不斷，中華民國二十三年孫小頭壹圓損失較為慘重，歷經百年歷史，其存世量珍罕，彌足珍貴。國民政府擬定設計新的孫中山像國幣以取代流通已久的袁世凱像銀幣和孫中山像中華民國開國紀念幣。天津造幣廠于當年設計并鑄造了三種正面鐫有孫中山著西服肖像的壹圓型銀幣，中華民國十八年孫中山西服像地球雙旗壹圓銀幣系天津造幣廠設計并正式鑄行的銀幣之一。有密內齒版和疏內齒版兩個版別。本品為疏內齒版，其銀幣正背兩面環幣邊緣內側鐫垂直于幣緣弧面的短直扣邊裝飾紋粗細相間。銀幣正面中央鐫孫中山著西服九分臉肖像，肖像上環鐫銀幣的鑄造年份“中華民國十八年”七個字。銀幣的背面采用流通已久的袁世凱像壹圓銀幣背面的三帆壹圓，貳元，伍元圖案文字，中央鐫幣值，托以嘉禾二束，左右交互，下系結帶。該幣在舊中國民國時期的全國各地均有少量流通，說明該銀幣系當時的中華民國國民政府正式鑄行的銀幣，只是鑄額較小，但絕非是民間江湖錢譜所稱的試鑄銀幣。
