顧洛（1763—約1837）字西梅，號禹門，浙江錢塘(今杭州）人，清嘉道時(shí)名家，畫工人物，尤擅仕女、山水，亦工花卉。人物古雅；山水蒼潤；花卉、翎毛亦見生動(dòng)。尤為著汪用成友善。書法古勁圓厚。用成延至其家，倩為代筆。生平作畫未嘗重稿，亦未授一弟子。
Gu Luo (1763-1837), with the name of Ximei and Yumen, was born in Qiantang (now Hangzhou), Zhejiang Province. He was a famous painter in the Qing Jiadao period. He was good at ladies, landscapes and flowers. People are ancient and elegant; mountains and rivers are verdant; flowers and feathers are also vivid. Wang is especially friendly. Calligraphy is ancient and round. Use Cheng Yan to his home, Qian as a substitute. I have never made a heavy draft of my life, nor given a disciple.
筆下的老人寓神于形，通俗平凡卻立意不凡。畫中老人有臉部、手部染赭色，表現(xiàn)出皮膚的質(zhì)感，面相描繪細(xì)膩，用筆工致，眉毛胡須濃密花白，眼睛總是注視前方，著重刻畫眼神、嘴角，通過老人注視某一物品的神態(tài)表達(dá)老人的內(nèi)心世界，有的略有所思，有的專注安祥，有的喜出望外，有的神情凝重，喜怒哀樂，神態(tài)各異。最值得我們關(guān)注的是人物服飾的線條，寬袍大袖，衣袂飄飄，頗有吳道子衣帶擋風(fēng)之貌，但又不完全是古代的游絲描，這些線條幾乎沒有斷筆，寥寥數(shù)筆，人物即活靈活現(xiàn)，功力驚人，且敷色平涂，這個(gè)特點(diǎn)與近代張大千可以媲美。

顯然，不考慮洛款鈴印，畫作本身絕對是上乘之作，又極高的收藏價(jià)值。但是我們也應(yīng)該注意到，顧洛公開的作品當(dāng)中，顧洛的落款簽名，西梅的梅字，大都寫成異體字【楳】，與本品一樣，寫成【梅】的極少，極具收藏價(jià)值
