粉彩瓷又叫軟彩瓷，景德鎮窯四大傳統名瓷之一，是以粉彩為主要裝飾手法的瓷器品種。粉彩是一種釉上彩（在瓷胎上）彩繪經低溫燒成的彩繪方法，粉彩也叫“軟彩”是釉上彩的一個品種。所謂的釉上彩，就是在燒好的素器釉面上進行彩繪，再入窯經過600度到900度的烘烤而成。粉彩瓷器是清朝康熙晚期在五彩瓷器的基礎上，受琺瑯彩瓷器制作工藝的影響而創造的一種釉上彩新品種，從康熙晚期創燒，后歷朝流行不衰。

清雍正粉彩竹報平安天球瓶，是當時雍正帝親自設計的創新形制，初以木模雕琢，圖飾幾經修改，經雍正認可后方才送至景德鎮官窯燒制，可見其重視。綠彩、墨彩繪竹、藍彩畫石，鵪鶉用赭、墨彩勾畫，渲染，此外還有紅、黃、等色繪花卉。并取諧音竹、鵪為“竹報平安”。鵪、綠為“安居樂業”。這一題材表示了人們希望生活美好安定的傳統愿望。此瓶彩繪濃淡相宜、鵪鶉翠竹、湖石、花草布局得體、雅致。筆繪工細、畫風活潑，顏色對比鮮明，是難得一見的佳品。
