在藏傳佛教中,千面觀音有共有八只手,在背后環(huán)列呈放射狀,稱為八臂十一面觀音。十一面觀音的每一面都有特殊的含義。根據(jù)《十一面觀世音神咒經(jīng)》記載,前三面為慈悲相,左三面為嗔相,右三面為白牙上出相,最后一面為暴笑想,最上面的佛面是說(shuō)法相。但在藏傳佛教中,觀音的頭很大,層層堆疊形同寶塔。觀音共有六種,十一面觀音是藏傳佛教中最常見(jiàn)的一種。這十一面分為五層排列,第一層三面,第二層三面,第三層也是三面,第四層單面,最上一層是一個(gè)阿彌陀佛的頭像。十一面中位于第四層的忿怒明王像。頭戴骷髏冠,齜牙咧嘴,面目猙獰,發(fā)髻外突。該藏品品相完整,包漿厚重,存世稀少具有極高的市場(chǎng)價(jià)值和升值空間。

千面觀音菩薩的名號(hào),是由其神咒而來(lái)。該神咒為“十一面觀世音神咒”,為十一億佛陀所說(shuō),威力甚大。根據(jù)《佛說(shuō)十一面觀世音神咒經(jīng)》記載:“時(shí)觀世音菩薩白佛言,世尊,我有心咒,名十一面。此心咒十一億諸佛所說(shuō),我今說(shuō)之,為一切眾生故,欲令一切眾生念善法故,欲令一切眾生無(wú)憂惱故,欲除一切眾生病故,為一切障難災(zāi)怪惡夢(mèng)欲除滅故,欲除一切橫病故,欲除一切諸惡心者令調(diào)柔故,欲除一切諸魔鬼障難不起故。”由此可知此神咒之廣大功德勢(shì)力,十一面中,前三面為慈相,是菩薩見(jiàn)到行善眾生時(shí)生出慈心的大慈與樂(lè)相。左三面為嗔相,是見(jiàn)到行惡眾生時(shí)生出悲心的大悲救苦相。右三面白牙上出相,是見(jiàn)到凈業(yè)眾生時(shí)所發(fā)出的贊嘆、勸進(jìn)相。最后一面是暴笑面,是見(jiàn)到善惡雜穢眾生時(shí),為使其改惡向道所生的怪笑相。頂上的佛面,是為修習(xí)大乘的眾生所作的說(shuō)法相。關(guān)于這十一面的配置,歷代佛徒所繪頗有不同。此外,或謂前左右各有三面,乃象征度化三有之眾生?；蜓约澎o相三面表示清凈行者的三毒,威怒的三面表示破除障礙善男善女正道正行的三障,利牙三面表破除惡魔惡人等左道的三障,后面的笑怒相表斷三毒等之后必得一切智。此十面為大悲方便之化儀。頂上佛面則為本地法身,即此十一面表因果一體本跡不二之義。在密教胎藏現(xiàn)圖曼荼羅中,此觀音位列蘇悉地院北端,具四臂,趺坐于蓮花上。本面兩側(cè)各有一面,其上有五面,更上有三面,合本面而成十一面。右第一手結(jié)施無(wú)畏印,第二手執(zhí)念珠。左第一手持蓮花,第二手持軍持。

The appearance on the white teeth on the right three sides is the admiration and persuasion to see the pure karma beings. The last one is the laughing face. It's the funny face to change the evil to the Tao when seeing the good and evil. The Buddha's face on the top is the saying phase for all beings who practice Mahayana. The arrangement of these ten aspects is quite different from that painted by the Buddhists of the past dynasties. In addition, there are three sides of the front and the left and the right, which symbolize the three beings. In other words, the three aspects of silence show the three poisons of the pure walker, the three aspects of power and anger show the three obstacles of breaking down the right path of the good man, the good woman, the right path, the three aspects of sharp teeth show the three obstacles of breaking down the left path of the evil man and the evil man, and the three aspects of laughter and anger show that after breaking the three poisons, all wisdom must be obtained. These ten aspects are the instruments of great sorrow and convenience. The top Buddha face is the local Dharma body, that is to say, the eleven aspects represent the essence of the unity of cause and effect. In the mandala of Tantric embryo collection, this Guanyin is located in the north end of Susi underground courtyard, with four arms, sitting on the lotus.
