瓷塑藝術發(fā)展至明代，已進入了它完美的時期，而福建德化瓷塑最負盛名。明代宋應星《天工開物》中記載：“德化窯惟以燒造瓷仙精巧人物玩器，不適實用。”德化窯的瓷塑以它獨特的潔白如玉的質地和高超的藝術技巧，在我國瓷塑藝苑中獨樹一幟。
明代瓷塑觀音，皆屬精雕細刻、工巧逼真的藝術珍品。藝術匠師們成功地運用捏、塑、雕刻、鏤、推、接、修等各種藝術技法，并成功地掌握了瓷塑造型與瓷釉功能相結合，裝窯與高溫烘燒相結合的經驗。他們所使用的工具多為竹制，使用竹制工具既不會產生因鐵銹沾染泥料造成的鐵斑點，使其更潔白無瑕，又可得心應手地進行雕刻、切削和推光，使作品面顏清秀，衣紋深透，輪廓組成也無不完美。

觀音低首垂目，面形長圓，飽滿豐潤，神情慈祥，似在俯瞰塵世眾生。其發(fā)髻高束，正中插如意形頭飾，頭戴風帽，身披長巾，胸前瓔珞珠佩亦作如意形。雙手隱于衣衫下，一足半露，一足屈掩。其衣紋自然，透過垂拂流轉的衣褶，隱露出觀音的肢體形態(tài)。
