釉里紅瓷是漢族傳統陶瓷中的藝術珍品，屬于元代中期景德鎮漢族勞動人民的重要發明之一。是元代景德鎮窯創燒的一種釉下彩繪，釉里紅即釉下的紅色，它是以氧化銅作著色劑，于胎上繪畫紋飾后，罩施透明釉，在1300℃高溫還原焰氣氛中燒成。因紅色花紋在釉下，故稱釉里紅瓷。它的制作過程非常復雜，原因是銅離子對溫度極為敏感，在窯爐中火候不到，呈現黑紅色或灰紅色;火候銷過銅離子便揮發，從釉層中逸出，呈現特有的飛紅現象或干脆退色，紋飾不連貫。當時燒柴窯很難控制窯溫，只有憑把樁師父的經驗與取出火照對比，無法大規模生產。數量極少，可謂鳳毛麟角。
