清代初中時期,國家繁榮,百姓生活安定,刺繡工藝得到了進一步地發展和提高,所繡物像變化較大,富于很高的寫實性和裝飾效果;又由于它用色和諧和喜用金針及墊繡技法,故使繡品紋飾具有題材廣泛、造型生動、形象傳神、獨具異彩、秀麗典雅、沉穩莊重的藝術效果。折射出設計者及使用者的巧思和品味,體現了清代刺繡所具有的豐富內涵和藝術價值。

清代刺繡,另有兩點值得視為突出成就:

一是地方性繡派如雨后春筍般興起,著名的除有“四大名繡”蘇繡、粵繡、蜀繡、湘繡,還有京繡、魯繡等,各自樹立自我特色,形成爭奇斗妍的局面。

二是晚清吸收日本繪畫長處,甚至融和西洋繪畫觀點入繡,江蘇蘇州沈壽首創的“仿真繡”,為傳統刺繡注入新血和新面目。

There are two other outstanding achievements in Qing embroidery:

First, local embroidery schools have sprung up like mushrooms. The famous ones include Suzhou embroidery, Yue embroidery, Shu embroidery and Xiang embroidery, as well as Beijing embroidery and Lu embroidery. They have set up their own characteristics to compete for beauty.
