豬寶又名豬辰砂，《唐本草》早記載稱為野豬黃，為豬科動物野豬膽囊中的結(jié)石，味辛、甘、平、無毒，外形如同豆粒，或呈粉末狀，外觀呈粉紅色或棕褐色,表面有少許光澤豬砂研究報(bào)告指出：豬砂是一種名貴緊缺中材，其形成時間較長，而豬的飼養(yǎng)期又很短，所以很少在豬體內(nèi)發(fā)現(xiàn)，但也有偶爾可見的。動物腸胃中的“寶”，大家比較熟知的一般是牛黃、豬砂、狗寶、馬寶、雞寶、鴨寶、這六樣也被譽(yù)為中藥六寶。牛黃，是牛科動物黃牛或水牛的膽囊結(jié)石；狗寶則為犬科動物的胃結(jié)石；豬砂、馬寶，則是病馬胃腸道中所生結(jié)石；鴨寶、雞寶，也是它們的胃腸道或膽囊結(jié)石。不過，目前除了牛黃較常見之外，其它五寶相當(dāng)難得，具有極高的藥用價(jià)值。

豬寶是一種名貴緊缺中藥材，其形成時間較長，而豬的飼養(yǎng)期又很短，所以很少能在豬體內(nèi)發(fā)現(xiàn)，但也有偶爾可見的。它的藥用功效類似牛黃，主要用于清熱、解毒、化痰、定驚。對人體有鎮(zhèn)靜作用。可治療心悸、失眠等癥。有豬寶的豬一般有禿毛，吃食少，體溫高，行走無力，軀體枯瘦，眼睛發(fā)紅，臥不安寧，嚎叫不止的特征。宰豬開膛時，應(yīng)檢查膽囊、膽管、肝管有無硬塊。如有硬塊，立即刮剝?nèi)〕觯瑒兂掣街膬?nèi)膜等物，再用干凈棉花、絨線包扎好，防止破裂散落，然后掛在陰涼處讓其自然干燥，不可風(fēng)吹日曬，以免影響質(zhì)量。由于天然豬寶很珍貴，國際上的價(jià)格要高于黃金。
