由于廣東省當時鑄造此幣的目的是奉獻清廷以祝慈禧太后萬壽，所以鑄額不大，大多奉獻給清廷或贈于當時的達官顯貴，見于民間流通的很少。該銀幣正面珠圈外上端鐫刻 “廣東省造”四字，下端鐫刻楷書“庫平重壹兩”五字，左右兩側(cè)各鐫有一蝙蝠圖案，珠圈內(nèi)鑄有 “光緒元寶”四字。銀幣背面珠圈外鑄雙龍戲珠圖案，珠圈內(nèi)鑄一圓形“壽”字。銀幣設(shè)計極富特色，正面兩側(cè)所鑄的一對蝙蝠圖案寓意吉祥。因蝙蝠的“蝠”字與“福”字諧音，在幣面上鑄蝙蝠圖案意在取“蝠”、“福”兩字諧音，與背面的“壽”字相對應，寓意“福壽雙全”。

Because bat is homophonic with Fu, the bat pattern on the coin is intended to take bat and Fu as homophonic characters, corresponding to longevity on the back, implying both happiness and longevity.
關(guān)于“廣東雙龍壽字幣一兩、七錢二分、七錢二”銀幣的鑄造，史料中沒有確切記載，坊間有三種觀點，一種觀點認為:這種銀幣是光緒三十年1904年鑄造，為紀念慈禧太后70大壽而鑄。第二種觀點認為是:光緒二十年1894年戶部推行“一兩本位”時廣東造幣廠為慶賀慈禧60大壽所鑄之幣。第三種觀點:此幣是1898年光緒權(quán)利到達巔峰之時而鑄造，只是因為宮廷政變，光緒帝被慈禧投入監(jiān)獄后此幣才未能流通。以上三種觀點都有不少擁護者。且不論哪一種觀點是正確的，單從收藏價值來說，三種觀點都說明了是為祝壽而鑄造的“紀念幣”，工藝精湛。且由于是限量發(fā)行，或未能正式流通，存世稀少。
