清代錢幣有一個很明顯的特點，一個皇帝只用一種年號錢，除個別例外，所有的年號錢均稱通寶。普遍做法是把皇帝的名號以漢文鑄在正面，而將各個錢幣鑄局的字名以滿文鑄在錢幣的背面。這些錢幣早已隨著歷史的巨輪流轉(zhuǎn)而退出流通市場，如今，它們以收藏品的身份逐漸現(xiàn)身在廣大藏家面前。

道光通寶鑄于清宣宗道光年間(1821-1850年)。形制特點基本與嘉慶錢相同，所不同者只是新疆阿克蘇、庫車因缺少黃銅而開始鑄折五當十升值平錢，這是清代虛值大錢的濫觴。道光通寶只少數(shù)錢背有星月紋以及記地、記年、記值的漢字，但卻不多見。
Daoguang Tongbao was cast in the reign of Daoguang (1821-1850). The shape characteristics are basically the same as that of Jiaqing coins, except that Aksu and Kuqa in Xinjiang started to cast five yuan and ten yuan coins because of the lack of brass, which is the origin of the large amount of money with high value in Qing Dynasty. Daoguang Tongbao has only a few Chinese characters with star and moon patterns on its back, as well as the characters for recording the land, the year and the value, but they are rare.
