龍泉寶劍是中華古兵器的代表之一,也是我國著名的傳統工藝美術品之一,迄今已有2500多年的歷史。相傳春秋末期，越國鑄劍大師歐冶子在龍泉秦溪山鑄成龍淵、泰阿、工布三把名劍。并以龍淵為鄉名。后因避唐高祖李淵諱，以"泉"代"淵"，改稱龍泉。自此有龍泉寶劍之稱，并聞名天下。龍泉寶劍又名七星寶劍，因其劍身上有北斗七星圖案而得名，亦成為龍泉寶劍獨特的“商標”內容之一。七星寶劍名揚千古，據東漢趙曄《吳越春秋》記載，春秋時，楚國亡臣伍子胥奔吳，途中有漁父助其渡江，伍子胥“乃解百金之劍，以與漁父，曰：‘此吾前君之劍，中有七星，價值百金，以此相答’”。隋唐詩人弘執泰的詩句“劍照七星影，馬控千金驄。縱橫方未悉，因茲在武功”，就描寫了一位手執七星寶劍，馳騁疆場，戰功顯赫的武士形象。七星寶劍還有著許多神奇非凡的傳說。”歐陽修筆下的七星寶劍，不但能暗室發光，還能預知天氣變化而錚錚有聲。而劍身上的輝煌七星，更使劍寒光逼人，鋒利無比，鎮妖邪除奸佞，其威力真可謂驚天地，泣鬼神了.

此劍從外形上來看， 由特質的木材制作而成的劍柄，外包著的黃銅已經失去光澤，上有透雕的吉祥圖案，劍鞘由兩塊紫檀木制成，上面用三塊黃銅固定。劍身選用鋼質錯金制作，劍鋒并未開刃。兩面鐫刻龍鳳、北斗七星圖案，此劍經過歲月的洗禮，劍身上雖有氧化的痕跡，但是紋飾依舊清晰可見，實屬罕見。
