粉彩始創于康熙，極盛于雍正。康熙晚期在琺瑯彩瓷制作的基礎上，景德鎮窯開始燒制粉彩瓷，但制作較粗，僅在紅花的花朵中運用粉彩點染，其他紋飾仍沿用五彩的制作。目前主要發現有兩個品種：一是白地粉彩器；一是綠、黃、紫三彩瓷上加有胭脂紅（金紅）彩。到了乾隆朝，無論在造型、怡釉和彩繪方面，粉彩瓷均得到了空前的發展。桃在中國傳統文化中是一種吉祥之物。傳說桃木可驅鬼，桃實食之則可延年益壽，遂成為長壽的象征。元稹《長慶集》十五《景中秋》詩：“簾斷螢火入，窗明蝙蝠飛。”蝙蝠簡稱“蝠”，因“蝠”與“福”諧音，人們以蝠表示福氣，福祿壽喜等祥瑞。民間繪畫中畫五只蝙蝠，意為《五福臨門》。"九"在中國傳統文化中則是至尊之數，九桃繪于瓶上，再加上5個蝙蝠，寓意平安祥順，萬壽無疆。
